IRONMAN has so far published 20 qualifying races for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, which is on 9 October 2027. Between them they carry 1,090 age-group slots. Most races get 45 to 55. Cozumel, the Latin America Championship, gets 100, and Western Australia, the Asia-Pacific Championship, gets 75. The list runs from August to December 2026, and IRONMAN says it can still change.

The number of slots on its own doesn't tell you much. Fifty-five slots shared by 2,500 finishers is a very different race from 50 slots shared by 600. So for each race below we added how many people finished, what that works out to per 100 finishers, and roughly how the slots split between men and women.

Kona slots for every 2027 qualifier so far

Races are listed by date. Slot numbers are IRONMAN's. Finishers come from the most recent edition in our database (year in brackets). The men and women numbers are our estimate, explained in About the data at the end of this page.

Where are slots easiest to come by?

Per 100 finishers, IRONMAN Malaysia has the most slots on the list, at 8.2. Next come Cozumel (6.9), Western Australia (6.6), IRONMAN Australia (6.3) and Vichy (5.6).

The big European and Californian races sit at the other end. Italy (2.2), Calella-Barcelona (2.3), California (2.4), Wales (2.6) and Tallinn (2.9) each have 1,500 to 2,500 finishers going after 45 to 55 slots.

This is not the same as your chance of qualifying. IRONMAN shares slots by the number of starters, not finishers, and a small race can still attract a lot of fast athletes chasing a slot. It's a quick way to see how crowded each race is.

How the slots split between men and women

Every age group gets one slot for its winner, women's age groups included. Women's fields are smaller, so those guaranteed slots give women a bigger share of the slots than of the field.

At Tallinn in 2026, women made up 17% of finishers. On our estimate they get about 14 of the 45 slots. At Malaysia, women were 9% of finishers and get about 12 of 50. Maryland had the most even field on the list: women were 25% of finishers and get about 19 of 55.

Once the winners' slots are given out, the rest go into two Performance Pools, one for men and one for women, sized by how many of each started. Inside each pool, athletes are ranked on age-graded time: their finish time multiplied by their age group's Kona Standard factor. Our guide to qualifying for Kona in 2027 has a worked example, and our qualification deep dive explains how roll-down works.

How fast do you need to be?

Slots tell you how many places there are, not how fast you need to go to get one. Across these races, the time needed to finish in the top 5% of the whole field ranges from about 9:14 at Western Australia, and 9:16 at Cozumel, to 11:11 at Wales. Much of that gap is probably down to the course and the weather rather than the athletes. Wales is one of the hardest full-distance courses we track.

To compare races properly, look at your own age group. Every race page shows the top-5% time for each age group, men and women, and our easiest Ironman races to qualify for Kona ranking sorts every full-distance race by it.

Slots and speed together set the cut-off. For eight of the 2026 races above we estimated the last finish time that earned a Performance Pool slot. For a man aged 30 to 34, it runs from about 8:33 at Tallinn to 10:20 at Wales. For a woman aged 30 to 34, from about 9:45 at Italy to 11:56 at Wales. These are our estimates, not IRONMAN's. The full race-by-race table is in our Kona Performance Pool cut-offs, and the times for other age groups are in Kona qualifying times by age group.

What about races in 2027, like IRONMAN Texas?

IRONMAN hasn't published slots for races held in 2027 yet. As of 20 October 2026 the list stops at December 2026. Until it's updated, past results are the best guide: our IRONMAN Texas page shows the top-5% times for each age group. We'll add the 2027 races here once IRONMAN publishes them.

Racing 70.3 instead?

This page is about full-distance races and Kona. 70.3 races qualify you for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, a separate race with its own list of qualifiers. Our guide to qualifying for 70.3 Worlds covers that path.

Find your race

Pick two or three races from the list. Then put your expected finish time into the race estimator to see where you would have placed in each race's past field, in your age group. If you would have made the top 5% of your age group, that race is worth a closer look.

About the data

  • Slot numbers come from IRONMAN's 2027 qualifying events list, checked on 20 October 2026. IRONMAN can still change them.
  • Finisher numbers come from our race database and use the most recent edition we have. For races already held in 2026, that's the field that raced for 2027 slots.
  • The men and women numbers are our estimate. IRONMAN sets the real split on race day from the number of men and women who start. We gave one winner's slot to each age group that had finishers in our data, then shared the rest by the number of men and women who finished. Small older age groups may be missing from our data, so the real numbers can be a slot or two different.
  • IRONMAN Japan South Hokkaido uses the data on our IRONMAN Japan page.
  • IRONMAN Australia is left out of the time comparison above. Its 2025 times are much faster than every other race on the list, and we're still checking that result.

The cut-off times in the How fast section are our estimates for eight of the 2026 races. We ranked finishers on age-graded time, used finishers as a stand-in for starters and did not model roll-down. Women's pools are small, from 2 to 8 slots, so the women's times can move by minutes. IRONMAN Maryland is left out because IRONMAN removed part of the bike timing from every athlete's time there. The method is in the Kona Performance Pool cut-offs post.

Frequently asked questions

How many Kona slots does each Ironman race have in 2027?
Most full-distance qualifiers have 45 to 55 slots. IRONMAN Cozumel (Latin America Championship) has 100 and IRONMAN Western Australia (Asia-Pacific Championship) has 75. That's from IRONMAN's 2027 qualifying events list as of 20 October 2026, and IRONMAN says it can still change.
Which 2027 Kona qualifier has the most slots?
IRONMAN Cozumel, with 100, then IRONMAN Western Australia with 75. Per finisher, IRONMAN Malaysia has the most on our data, at about 8 slots per 100 finishers.
How are Kona slots split between men and women?
Each men's and women's age group gets one slot for its winner. The rest go into separate men's and women's Performance Pools, sized by how many men and women start. Because women's fields are smaller, women usually get a bigger share of the slots than of the field. At IRONMAN Tallinn in 2026, women were 17% of finishers but would get about 14 of the 45 slots on our estimate.
When will IRONMAN publish Kona slots for 2027 races?
As of 20 October 2026 the official list only covers races up to December 2026. IRONMAN hasn't said when races held in 2027 will be added, so check the official qualifying events page before you register.
What finish time gets a Kona slot at these races?
It depends on the race and your age group. Our estimates of the last Performance Pool time at eight 2026 races put a man aged 30 to 34 between about 8:33 and 10:20, and a woman aged 30 to 34 between about 9:45 and 11:56. These are estimates, not IRONMAN figures, and age-group winners get a slot regardless of time.
