Going by real finish times, the easiest Ironman course is Ironman Brazil. Half of its 1,889 finishers in 2026 were done in under 11 hours 8 minutes. Copenhagen, Les Sables, Barcelona and Hamburg come next, all with a typical finish of about 11 and a half hours or less. In North America, Ironman Texas had the fastest typical finish at about 12 hours 21 minutes, just ahead of Cozumel and Maryland.

We ranked 41 full-distance races by their median finish time, the time of the middle finisher. From the easiest course to the hardest, the typical finish gets more than three hours slower.

The 10 easiest Ironman courses by median finish time

These are the 10 races with the fastest typical finish in the latest edition we have. Field spread is how far apart the middle half of the field finished, so a small spread means most people finished close together.

  1. Ironman Brazil (2026): median 11:08, spread 2h 03m, 1,889 finishers
  2. Ironman Copenhagen (2026): median 11:17, spread 2h 13m, 2,506 finishers
  3. Ironman Les Sables (2025): median 11:17, spread 2h 01m, 2,539 finishers
  4. Ironman Barcelona (2025): median 11:32, spread 2h 19m, 2,430 finishers
  5. Ironman Hamburg (2026): median 11:33, spread 2h 01m, 2,178 finishers
  6. Ironman Italy (2026): median 11:45, spread 2h 06m, 2,476 finishers
  7. Ironman Frankfurt (2025): median 11:48, spread 2h 11m, 2,176 finishers. The 2026 race was shortened for heat, so we use 2025.
  8. Ironman Austria (2026): median 11:54, spread 2h 12m, 2,607 finishers
  9. Ironman Western Australia (2025): median 11:55, spread 2h 47m, 1,132 finishers
  10. Ironman Tallinn (2026): median 11:55, spread 2h 38m, 1,564 finishers

Nine of the ten are in Europe or South America, and seven had more than 2,000 finishers. Our view is that the courses are only part of it. Big European races tend to have deep fields, and that pulls the median down too.

The easiest Ironman races in North America

Stay in North America and the order changes. These are the 11 races we have data for, fastest typical finish first:

  1. Ironman Texas (2026): median 12:21, spread 2h 45m, 2,215 finishers
  2. Ironman Cozumel (2025): median 12:22, spread 3h 15m, 1,444 finishers
  3. Ironman Maryland (2026): median 12:24, spread 2h 41m, 1,244 finishers
  4. Ironman Ottawa (2026): median 12:35, spread 2h 33m, 2,313 finishers
  5. Ironman California (2025): median 12:43, spread 2h 50m, 2,314 finishers
  6. Ironman Arizona (2025): median 12:48, spread 2h 52m, 1,687 finishers
  7. Ironman Florida (2025): median 12:54, spread 2h 51m, 1,464 finishers
  8. Ironman Chattanooga (2026): median 13:10, spread 2h 43m, 1,184 finishers
  9. Ironman Wisconsin (2026): median 13:25, spread 2h 30m, 1,377 finishers
  10. Ironman Lake Placid (2026): median 13:30, spread 2h 50m, 1,941 finishers
  11. Ironman Jacksonville (2026): median 13:33, spread 3h 11m, 1,283 finishers

The fastest North American median is more than an hour slower than Brazil's. Wisconsin, Lake Placid and Jacksonville sit at the bottom, over an hour behind Texas.

Is Ironman Florida the easiest Ironman?

Florida often tops easiest-Ironman lists. Triathlon Magazine Canada put it first in its 2017 list of easy first Ironman races, mainly because the bike course is almost flat. In our data it isn't the fastest, though. Its median in 2025 was 12:54, about half an hour slower than Texas and Maryland.

A flat course doesn't promise a fast day. Heat, wind and a choppy sea swim slow everyone down. The flat bike is still a real help on a first Ironman. Just don't expect Florida to be the quickest race on the calendar.

What makes an Ironman course easier

  • A flat or rolling bike. The bike is the longest part of the day, so climbing costs the most time.
  • A calm swim. A lake or sheltered bay is easier than open sea with chop or current.
  • Mild weather. Heat, humidity and wind slow everyone down.

How to choose your first full Ironman

  • Pick a course that looks like where you train. Back in 2002, one poster in a Slowtwitch thread on the easiest Ironman put it simply: choose a course similar to the terrain you train on.
  • Check the cut-offs. Every full Ironman has swim, bike and finish time limits. Our Ironman cut-off times guide lists them.
  • Look at the race page before you sign up. Each one shows the full spread of finish times, so you can see where your likely time would land. Start from the races page.
  • Get a predicted time for that course. The race time estimator works for every race in our database. Pick yours from the dropdown.
  • Thinking about a Kona slot as well? The easiest course to finish isn't always the easiest to qualify at. At Brazil, the fastest 5% finished in about 9:09. At Ironman Philippines, the toughest course in our list, it was about 10:37. That's only a rough signal, because Kona slots are given out by age group. Our easiest Ironman races to qualify for Kona ranking goes by age group, and our guide to qualifying for Kona covers the rest.

Not ready for a full Ironman yet?

Plenty of people do a 70.3 first. It's half the distance, and the training fits more easily around work and family. If that's you, see our most beginner-friendly 70.3 races.

About the data

  • Times come from the latest edition of each race in our database (the year in brackets), as of 24 October 2026. Medians are rounded to the nearest minute.
  • The median is the time of the middle finisher: half the field was faster and half slower. Field spread is the gap between the 25th and 75th percentile finish times.
  • Only finishers count. People who didn't finish aren't in the median, so a race with a lot of DNFs can look faster than it felt.
  • Our ranking only uses finish times. It reflects the course, the weather that year and the field all at once, and can't say which one made the difference.
  • We left out the Ironman World Championship in Kona, because you have to qualify for it.
  • When a race's latest edition wasn't a normal full distance, we used the year before. Ironman Frankfurt 2026 was shortened for heat, with a 125 km bike and a half-marathon run, so Frankfurt shows 2025. Ironman Leeds 2026 has no swim times in our data, so Leeds shows 2025. Ironman Australia is left out: its 2025 race has no swim times and we don't have an earlier edition.
  • North America here includes Mexico (Cozumel), even though IRONMAN groups Cozumel with Latin America.
